The NMSU DanceSport Team held a very successful audition on August 25, 2009. The decision process was extremely difficult because of the great amount of ability in those who auditioned. We would like to thank everyone that participated and congratulate those who made the team.

The auditions will consist of two parts. The first part consists of everyone learning a few combinations in different styles of social dancing. After learning the combinations you will partner with someone and present the material learned to music. The adjudicators will be present at all times during the auditions, so that they will have the opportunity to see how well and fast you pick up what was taught. The second part consists of callbacks. The callbacks will require everyone selected to attend an interview with the Executive Board, Director, and Advisor of the team.

The DanceSport Team meets 3 times a week for 2 hours each meeting. The meeting times are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7:15am-9:15am. As part of the scheduled practices all members of the team are required to sign up for one of the two DanceSport classes (DANC 204/304). DANC 204 is a variable credit course (1-2) that is primarily based on performances throughout the semester. DANC 304 is a variable credit course (1-2) that is primarily based on choreography that students create.

In addition to regularly scheduled practice times students are encouraged to work on their own time with their partners. Students will also be required to participate in community service activities and performances throughout the year.
